ACHA Regional Playoffs Put to Vote
Regional playoffs were approved by a large margin at the ACHA Convention in
Naples, FL this past weekend. Nearly fifty Division II teams were represented at the
conference for a very solid turnout. The measure to implement regional playoffs was
overwhelmingly supported as only a few teams voted in support of the current system.

In previous seasons the top four ranked teams in the four ACHA regions gained entry
to the national tournament. Now however, with the approval of regional playoffs, only
the top two ranked teams in each region will be guaranteed invites to the tournament.
Teams ranked 3 through 10 will now face each other in playoff format to battle for the
two remaining invitations to nationals. The regional playoffs will be held at a neutral
site in order to prevent home-ice advantage for any participating team. A neutral site
format has also been adopted for the ACHA DII National Tournament which will be
held in Rochester, NY for 2006.
