New Faces Abound on 2007 IceHawks
The lack of familiar faces on the 2007 IceHawks might lead some to question whether
the Hawks will be able to handle the toughest schedule the Hawks have ever had to
face. The Hawks lost a staggering eleven players from the 2005-06 team that
finished with the best conference record in IceHawk history. However, the Hawks are
confident that they will be able to compete and more, as the 2006-07 rookie class is
one of the strongest in recent history.
Among the newcomers are sophomores Kyle Jacobson of Souix City, IA and Grant
Erbes of Johnston, IA. Jacobson last played for the Northern Michigan Black Bears
and Erbes last played for the Des Moines Oak Leafs. Other non-freshman
newcomers are junior Sean McCarthy of Flossmoor, IL and goaltender Jason Parlee
The 2006-07 freshmen that help to complete the Hawkeyes' roster include
Goaltender Derek Lawson of Des Moines, IA who will be take over the role of starting
goalie for junior Tim Strauch, who is out until second semester as he recovers from a
torn anterior cruciate ligament. Other freshmen additions include Jordan Snetsellarr
of Iowa City, IA who last played for the Wisconsin Mustangs of the MJHL, Ryne
Takacs, whocomes to the Hawks from Bettendorf, IA and last played for the Quad
City Express, and Tyler Smith and Brian Mostyn who are both from Joliet, IL and both
played for Joliet Catholic Academy.
Jordan Loperena and Adam Rankin also come to the Hawkeyes from Iowa's neighbor
to the east as Loperena is from Lake Zurich, IL and last played for Lake Zurich High
School. Rankin is from Cary, IL and last played for Kimball Union Academy in New
Hampshire, while Austin Ladd last played for Salisbury School in Conneticut and hails
from Southbury, CT.
The Hawkeyes will open the 2006-07 season next weekend against Palmer College
at Coral Ridge Ice Arena at 9:00 PM, so come out and get familiar with your new
Hawkeyes!
